hi, born and raised in Konya, I deeply appreciate and relentlessly support every effort to help spread Mevlana's words, and I must admit, this site is one of the best promoters Ive ever seen. great pleasure to see so many good comments from a very diverse group of visitors in the guest book, too.isn it fascinating, even after centuries, Mevlana's philosophy can still unite us all...

please let me know if there is anyway I can help you, particularly on Konya, both his and my hometown..

God bless you, all

I would like to thank the creator of this site dedicated to such a important Mystic of Islam. In India very less is known about Maulana Rum. i would like to bring it to ur knowledge that the complete translation of Masnavi (Farsi) into Urdu Nazam is made by a great Sufi named Hazrat Maula Fakruddin Saheb from Kudchi Sharif in Karnataka District of India. The work is known as "Jahur-E-Raz." Also his Dewan is available in print known as "Dewan-E-Sajjada" which has work in Farsi & Urdu.

wow this is gr8. My gratitudes 2 da person (s) that know 2 appreciate all these good thoughts n' philosophy n' beautifull literature.... u sure do need improvements but I am also sure that you will do so ....

Rows of houses, all bearing down on me I can feel their blue hands touching me All these things into position All these things we'll one day swallow whole And fade out again and fade out

This machine will, will not communicate These thoughts and the strain I am under Be a world child, form a circle Before we all go under And fade out again and fade out again

Cracked eggs, dead birds Scream as they fight for life I can feel death, can see its beady eyes All these things into position All these things we'll one day swallow whole And fade out again and fade out again

Immerse your soul in love IMMERSE YOUR SOUL IN LOVE

This is a really great work. the translations are so good. I read so many translations of Khayyam, where I thought they destroyed the whole verse. But those really are great. Why is the Farsi Poem not shown on Mathnavi like divane shams? I like to read the farsi very much and then compare with the translation and read the English version to those who are interested.

Gandhi, Buddha, Dalai Lama ... as well as Thomas Merton, St. Francis, Jesus ... these people knew what we still struggle to see ... they saw an awesome commonality where we see division.

Thanks, Rumi site is great & writings are wonderful !!!!!!

Hi There... (I dont know whether you are muslim(s) or not...

I was just wondering.. howcome you guys take Rumi as an example? why didnt you concentrate on Islam? or Muhammad (saw)? did you know that Rumi claimed in one of his books that it was revelation? what does this statement make him?

Allah (swt) says: Falaa wa rabbika la yo'menoona hatta yuhakkimuka fima shajarra bainahum thumma la yajedu fi anfusehim hara jammemma qadaita wayusallimu taslima (nisa 65)

and Allah (swt) says: Laqqad kaana la kum fi rasulillahi uswatun hasanah... (azhab 21)

I wonder why people become sufies, I dont see anything rational in sufism.

But the point I wanted to let you all in on, is that Rumi claimed that his book was revelation, and only the Messangers of Allah (swt) can say that they have been sent with revelation (that is what makes them Messangers) and Muhammad (saw) was the last of the Prophets (khataman nabieen azhab 40) so how can Rumi claim that his book is revelation?

Sufism is a disaster, because it paralyzes the thinking of the muslims, and makes them litteraly zombies... have you ever seen a war fought by sufis? never! sufism is regressive and is the reason that muslims lost track of reality, and as a result of this, we lost our place as the best Nation, and were reduced to being the weakest of all nations. The unbelievers live better lives than us, whats the reason? Muhammad (saw) said: Wallahi! you must enjoin the good (the islamic) and forbid the evil (the un-islamic) or else Allah (swt) will bring a curse over you, and you will pray, but your prayers wont help you. (sahih, look for it in bukhari or muslim).

The muslims, in stead of enjoining the good and forbidding the evil, isolated themselves, because of this sufism...

I have a final question for you: Have you ever heard of tawheed? (surah ikhlas for example) Come back to the fold of islam.

Rumi's words are of the ancient. One must focus on the beauty and message of peace. Regardless weather you are of Islam, Christianity, Judiasm or Sufiasm...a beautiful thought for the beloved is just that. I'm sure we're all aware of Rumi's Sufiasm, but his ancient words, so strongly in the eastern thought were preserved for mankind, in a world full of hate and anger. May we all feel the light of peace from the kindness of his heart. inshalla

There are two types of Love. Ishq-e-Majazi which is the love for a person or a worldly thing. The other Ishq-e-Haqiqi, which is the love of the Truth (Allah S.W.T.) Hazrath Rumi (R.A.) wrote these poems in the love of their creator and should be read and understood in this context.

thanks for translating the poems I encountered your sight will trying to found to poem which contains the following lines. Do you know which poem of Rumi this is?

... each moment sees a soul and spirit fly into the void, for from these stars so bright like candles hanging down, and from the sky whose awnings blue bedrape the lofty height has come a wondrous race whose quest divine is to reveal the mysteries aright....

I'd be much gratefull for your help.

Whenever I go through RUMI my mind always flashes to find his Kamil Murshid the great SHAMS TABRIZ ,I MEAN THE THE SPIRITUAL MASTER-GURU of Rumi who seems to be a shadow to me. After the divine union with Shams Tabriz, Rumi became true, real and refined Rumi. Why do we hide Shams Tabrezi behind the curtain and praise Rumi only? I think still more and more research work is needed.Rumi has paid his debt by giving great tribute to Shams Tabrezi in his Diwane- Shams.I would like to know more about Shams tabrez at advanced level. Many people know about the first contact of Rumi with Shams Tabrezi who showed him many miracles. Shams Tabrezi was a super angel like having divine powers and he was in the search of person like Rumi who can show his vision. Please, throw some light on the divine Shams Tabrezi in your web-site to make it perfect.I was very pleased to go through your hard work and found fruitful and can be to everyone who love Rumi and his immortal creation.May ALLAH shower His loving mercy and blessings upon you and your team to launch such a wonderful web- site. This noble work will definately make impact on the western society to be aware of ISLAMIC DIVINITY and eternal message of LOVE and PEACE EXPOSED BY RUMI. The Global community is proud to have Rumi and his immortal creation. From: Madatali N.Dhanani, Edmonton-Alberta,Canada.

Thank you for an enjoyable site from an Afghan. It is important to remember that the persian speakers in Afghanistan have made great contributions to persian literature as have the Iranians and Tajiks, it is only sad to see that modern day scholars particularly in Iran denounce the persian Afghans as having much to do with the Persians and thier writings.

Assalamualaykum wbth.,

Dear Akhi and all readers,

I would like to congratulate your party for turning a piece of Mevlavi's work of deep love and high thought into cyber works... May Allah bless all of you no matter what stream of spiritual belief you are come from, either sirr in nature or whirling in action... keep on chanting His name on your own way, and remember we are diversified yet united... by the name of the Only ALLAH, through His blessed steps of our great Maulana, Saidina Muhammad Rasulullah.

Dear ikhwan, let us enjoy the art blend of Mathnawi, Divani Shamsi Tibriz etc... feel its beauty, explore the latiff behind its zikir and music, breathe the sufi air of deep rememberance.. thanks, jazakallu khaira, wassalam.

I met this page for the first time and ,really, it made me very happy. I am telling this because I am a Persian and presently studying in Turkey. It is comes strange to me that the whole world knows Mevlana as great Persian scholar but still in Turkey, in despite the facts that he wrote his "masnavi" in Persian, and that "masnavi" is accepted as the biggest and the most outstanding work in Persian language, mevlana is believed to be Turk. It is obvious that everyone wants to have good past through the history. Possessing intelligent forefathers is wish of everyone, especially of those who suffered inferiority through the history. May be this is the reason of owning great Persian scholars.

Thank you for all your hardwork and the essential translations. Your efforts illuminate and educate the world with the poetic words of Rumi.

I, of course, would like to see more translations as he was a prolific writer. I remember reading once about "why be like a wolf?" and another passage concerning making love with your clothes on is not really making love at all, some years ago.

Those words are still with me to this day.

Nowhere do you mention the inspiration for this work--the fact that Rumi and Shams-e-Din Muhammad Ibn Malik-dad Tabrizi, a holy man in his own right, were inseparable lovers for two years. Rumi abandoned his religious and social responsibilities and uner the influence of Shams' teaching, devoted himself to the pursuit of Sufi Mysticism. I am indeed thankful for your generous translations, though one must know the true inspiration for this work to truly understand it. This newly formed bond began to garner complatins from Rumi's wife and children as well as from his students, who began to resent Shams. As the pressure built, Shams finally departed Rumi on March 14, 1246, leaving Rumi grief-stricken, but later returned in 1248. The relationship between Rumi and Shams was not the usual Sufi adoration of divine youthful beauty, but a love between two older mystics of great character and personal strength. their relationship, however, was still seen as unaccceptable and a concerted effort on behalf of Rumi's family and followers resulted in teh murder of Shams. Conspirators carefully concealed thier murder of Shams' from Rumi, who though that his lover had simply left him once again. In search of his absent lover, Rumi travelled throughout Syria, writing many poems and lamentations relating his anguish over the disappearance of Shams. The resulting work is Divan-e-Shams, a compendium of poetry in praise of Shams in over 45,000 verses in the Farsi language. I have research Rumi and have come to understand him as one who believed in and taught the ideal of the spiritual bonding of men, and he disliked passive homosexual behaviour. The lore of youthful beauty, although part of eternal beauty was far too unreliable. To truly understand the works of Rumi, and especially the Divan-e-Shams, one must know about the relationship between Rumi and Shams. I encourage you to make amends to your biography and notes. Sincerely, Kaleo Carter

I have been to Hafez, Saadi, and Ferdowsi's graves over the last two summers, such a deep and beautiful experience. I highly recommend visiting them. Mahsa
