In search of Solomon’s love, I turned my body into wax Rolled a candle of myself in order to turn into light |
Recognized His will and gave up my own corrupt wishes Like a reed upon His lips, I could only cry in delight |
Held my hand, and in return, like the blind I held His In His hand, I quizzed the clueless in my plight |
I was either innocent, intoxicated or insane I looted my own treasure while uptight and in fright |
Like a thief I found a crack in my own wall Cut jasmines from my garden, like a burglar in the night |
I am amply mystified under your thumb Your fingers have turned and twisted me tight |
Shams-e-Tabriz, light-giver to moon and stars Though full of sorrows, I am crescent moonlight. |
